From the Appalachian Mountains to the coast of Savannah, and the farms and forests in between, Georgia is blessed with impeccable natural beauty and abundant natural resources. Our nation’s energy strategy must embrace domestic production and use emerging technologies that spark innovation, which is why we need a bold energy strategy that works toward meeting our short and long-term plans to secure clean, affordable, and reliable American energy and achieve true energy independence.
The Biden Administration cancelled the Keystone XL pipeline, released millions of barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), and blocked federal oil and gas leasing – all efforts that contributed to record-high prices at the pump and increased cost for hardworking American families. That’s why my House Republican colleagues and I worked to address America’s ongoing energy crisis and lower costs for American consumers by passing H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act. This critical bill cuts burdensome red tape, fast-tracks domestic energy production to lower energy costs and stops our dependence on hostile foreign countries. It also expedites construction of critical energy infrastructure projects and ensures critical minerals needed for emerging technologies are mined here in America – not in China.
During the 118th Congress, I also voted for H.R. 21, the Strategic Production Response Act, which preserves the SPR’s core purpose and function – to only provide oil supplies to Americans during true emergencies, not tap into it for political purposes.
Achieving true energy independence again is critical to strengthening America’s energy and national security. We must be committed to finding common-sense solutions that meet our energy goals and unleash domestic production.
