WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Russell Fry (SC-07) introduced a resolution alongside Congressman Buddy Carter (GA-01) and Congressman Barry Loudermilk (GA-11) honoring the life and heroic actions of Mr. Anderson “Chase” Childers, a former Georgia police officer who selflessly sacrificed his life rescuing swimmers from a deadly rip current off the coast of Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
On July 13, 2025, Mr. Childers—38 years old, a decorated former officer with the Cobb County Police Department, and a former minor league baseball player—bravely rushed into the water to rescue a family of five caught in a deadly rip current. His courageous actions ultimately cost him his life—but not before ensuring the family returned safely to shore.
From Pawleys Island to communities across Georgia, people have come together to honor Mr. Childers’ incredible act of heroism. His selfless sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on in every life he touched.
“Chase Childers is a true American hero,” said Rep. Fry. “He spent his life protecting others, earning numerous commendations throughout his law enforcement career, including a lifetime achievement award for saving lives. His final act reflected a life lived in service to others. We honor his bravery and commit to preserving his legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Nataley, and their three children.”
“Anderson ‘Chase’ Childers made the ultimate sacrifice in a selfless and heroic effort to save a family of five from a deadly rip current,” said Rep. Carter. “As Georgians, we mourn the tragic loss of our law enforcement hero. His memory will indeed live on through his actions and in the lives of those he saved. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this challenging time.”
“I am proud to be part of this resolution formally recognizing the selfless actions of a fellow Georgian and former Cobb County Police Officer, Chase Childers,” said Rep. Loudermilk. “His effort to charge into danger to save those in distress was truly honorable and is a testament to a lifetime of service to others. My prayers continue to be with his family as they mourn their loss. May his heroism never be forgotten.”
