U.S. Congressman Barry Loudermilk

Rep. Loudermilk (R-GA) announced the 2019 Art Competition winners for Georgia’s 11th Congressional District at the Woodstock Public Library in Woodstock, Georgia. Rachel Liu (pictured above), who attends The Westminster Schools, won First Place for her entry entitled, “Back to My Roots: A Grandfather’s Gaze.”

“The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for students from across Georgia’s 11th Congressional District to compete to have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol," said Rep. Loudermilk. "The artwork I saw at the Woodstock Library this year was nothing short of incredible, which is no surprise because each of the finalists were excellent students. I want to thank the twelve schools who participated from across the district, and the dozens of students who made this year’s competition one of the best.”

Thresholds for Inflation

From the Credit Union National Association:

"The House Financial Services Committee Thursday passed a bill with Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML) relief for credit unions. The Coordinating Oversight, Upgrading and Innovating Technology and Examiner Reform (COUNTER) Act (H.R. 2514) passed the committee with a 55-0 vote.

Rep. Emmanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) successfully added an amendment to the COUNTER Act to index the Currency Transaction Report (CTR) thresholds for inflation and further study the impact of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs). During the hearing, Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) and other members of the committee expressed support for credit unions and acknowledged the need for increasing the CTR threshold."

Social Media of the Week: Our Economy is Booming!

Graphic of the Week: Freedom vs Socialism

From Our Constituent Services Desk…
Does it feel as if each year is shorter than the last? Relatively speaking, time seems to go by faster each year; and, with it, a myriad of new issues we never expected to deal with. Aging can be a very stressful process for many reasons. How will I pay for medicine? Who will take care of me if I become disabled? What resources are there for my caregiver?

The good news is, there are resources available to help answer these questions. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration on Aging manages a fantastic website, Eldercare.gov. On this site are resources for help finding support services, housing, elder rights, insurance & benefits, health, and transportation. There is even a dedicated “Caregiver Corner” for resources specific to caregivers.

For our Veterans, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a dedicated site www.caregiver.va.gov where Veterans and caregivers can find support or have questions answered regarding adult day health care centers, home-based primary care, skilled home care, and homemaker & home health aides. An excellent site offering FREE online education and support to all Americans who work with, live with, or care for military service members and their families is PsychArmor Institute. They have over 100 short online training courses on issues relevant to military and Veteran communities.
