  Press Release: Rep. Loudermilk Introduces ‘Return to Work Act’
 
  Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after he introduced the Return to Work Act (H.R. 3254), which would end the federal unemployment subsidy of $300 per week that is being paid in addition to state unemployment benefits.

“Demand is far outpacing supply in many areas of the economy, which means inflation is rising, the cost of goods is rising, and hardworking Americans and our economy are paying the price – literally. Why are employers struggling to fill the record 8.1 million jobs available when the unemployment rate is 6.1%? It’s because we are paying millions of people to stay at home instead of finding a job.

  Press Release: 2021 Congressional Art Competition Winners Announced
 
  Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) announced, via video, the winners of the 11th Congressional District 2021 Congressional Art Competition, which is a competition for high school students living within the district.

The top three contestants won scholarships from The Art Institute of Atlanta, and the First Place winner received an additional scholarship from Savannah College of Art Design.

  Press Release from Internal Revenue Service: IRS begins correcting tax returns for unemployment compensation income exclusion; periodic payments to be made May through summer
 
  The Internal Revenue Service will begin issuing refunds this week to eligible taxpayers who paid taxes on 2020 unemployment compensation that the recently-enacted American Rescue Plan later excluded from taxable income.

The IRS identified over 10 million taxpayers who filed their tax returns prior to the American Rescue Plan of 2021 becoming law in March and is reviewing those tax returns to determine the correct taxable amount of unemployment compensation and tax. This could result in a refund, a reduced balance due or no change to tax (no refund due nor amount owed).
