Re-Introduces Balanced Budget Amendment

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after he reintroduced his balanced budget amendment, H.J.Res. 40:

“As our national debt continues to increase at an alarming rate, Americans grow increasingly weary of the federal government’s inability to operate within its means. Congress has proven over the past two decades that it no longer has the political will to reduce its excessive spending – and unless we want to bury our kids and grandkids underneath a mountain of debt, we must force fiscal responsibility through a Constitutional Amendment. A recent poll done by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation found that seventy-one percent of Americans agree that the national debt is a bipartisan issue, and that the debt should be a top priority for the president and Congress, which is why I have re-introduced my balanced budget amendment that aims to balance the federal budget within ten years. We must get our fiscal house in order, so we can continue to meet our financial obligations for generations to come.”

In the News: Lawmakers Reintroduce Bipartisan, Bicameral BUILD Act
From the office of Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE):

Today, U.S. Senators Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Representatives Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) and Brad Sherman (D-Cali.) reintroduced the Building up Independent Lives and Dreams (BUILD) Act. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation would allow nonprofits to once again use forms that are less complex when they are issuing 0% interest loans. This will help ensure the organizations can continue to make these loans to borrowers.

“The BUILD Act will allow nonprofits, like Habitat for Humanity, an exemption from complex regulations that are difficult to comply with. The cost of compliance has been significant for some nonprofits, causing them to spend less time fulfilling their mission and more time sitting in an office,” said Congressman Barry Loudermilk (R-GA). “Last Congress, the BUILD Act passed out of the House Financial Services Committee and the full House unanimously, and I would hope for a similar outcome in the House and Senate this Congress.”

From Rep. Loudermilk's Constituent Services Desk…
Rep. Loudermilk recently posted a survey regarding issues constituents face with federal agencies. Thank you for your responses! Many people are not aware of the services offered to constituents by their member of Congress.

Constituent Services is not directly related to the legislative process (this would include thoughts, concerns, or opinions on pending legislation, or changes to federal legislation). Constituent Service Representatives at a congressional office manage casework, which involves federal matters impacting you directly, such as pending applications for Social Security or Veteran benefits; obtaining a missing record or payment from a federal agency; or assistance with immigration matters. While our office is ready to assist you with your federal issues, there are some matters which fall outside the jurisdiction of a congressional office, such as county, city, or state issues. If you’re unsure the jurisdiction of your issue, please feel free to contact our office at 770-429-1776 and we will be happy to direct you to the appropriate office.

Rep. Loudermilk’s Constituent Service Representatives have over 36 combined years of experience in helping constituents navigate federal agencies. The most often requested assistance in the 11th Congressional District is with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). We are contacted daily by Veterans seeking help with pending disability claims, scheduling appointments, or looking for financial assistance for elderly parents.

To obtain help with a federal agency, the Privacy Release Act of 1974 requires our office to have a completed and signed Privacy Release Form from an 11th District constituent directly affected by the agency. You may locate our Privacy Release and obtain additional information online. If you do not have online access, please contact our Woodstock District Office at 770-429-1776 and we can mail or fax the form to you. Once your authorization form is returned to us, your case will be assigned to a caseworker who will contact you and keep you updated on its progress. Watch in upcoming newsletters for more information on the most requested casework topics. We look forward to serving you should you need our assistance.
