Press Release of the Week [1 of 2]: 11th Congressional District Art Competition Winners Announced

Rep. Loudermilk (R-GA) announced the 2019 Art Competition winners for Georgia’s 11th Congressional District at the Woodstock Public Library in Woodstock, Georgia. Rachel Liu, who attends The Westminster Schools, won First Place for her entry entitled, “Back to My Roots: A Grandfather’s Gaze.”

“The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for students from across Georgia’s 11th Congressional District to compete to have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The artwork I saw at the Woodstock Library this year was nothing short of incredible, which is no surprise because each of the finalists were excellent students. I want to thank the twelve schools who participated from across the district, and the dozens of students who made this year’s competition one of the best.”

Press Release of the Week [2 of 2]: Rep. Loudermilk Introduces National Day of Prayer Resolution

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after he introduced a resolution in the House recognizing May 2, 2019, as a National Day of Prayer, H.Res. 334:

“Throughout the history of the United States, our national leaders have consistently turned to prayer during times of struggle, adversity, and crisis. George Washington’s prayer in Valley Forge was a turning point in our war for independence; Benjamin Franklin’s call for prayer broke the political gridlock during the Constitution Convention; President Franklin Roosevelt took to the airwaves, leading the nation in prayer as our troops landed at Normandy on D-Day; and George Patton’s prayer for a change in weather turned the tide during the Battle of the Bulge. More recently, I witnessed firsthand the miraculous impact of prayer during the Congressional baseball shooting in June 2017.

“These are only a few of the numerous documented instances where Americans have individually and collectively turned to God in prayer, and He has consistently answered. Effective and fervent prayers are not only a core aspect of our national past, but remain a powerful tool in all aspects of public and private matters, and I encourage all people to pray for one another and our nation on this national day of prayer, and every day.”

In the News: New bill would restrict Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from lobbying
From The Hill:

"Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) announced legislation to restrict government-sponsored mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from having a lobbying arm.

The Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Lobbying Regulation Act was introduced with Rep. Bill Foster (D-Ill.) and two Republicans, Reps. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia and Trey Hollingsworth of Indiana.

After the 2008 housing market crisis, the Federal Housing Finance Administration banned the two entities from lobbying, but exact the provisions and specific restrictions of the ban remain unclear."
