Congressional Oversight

House Administration Committee’s Oversight Subcommittee

At the beginning of the 118th Congress, I was named the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation for the Committee on House Administration. As part of my role as Chairman, I have been providing oversight on issues pertaining to congressional security, such as reviewing past security failures and advancing ways we can improve accountability. Additionally, I have been investigating the events on and surrounding January 6, 2021, when protestors breached security and forced their way into the U.S. Capitol. I remain committed to further improving security and ensuring that a Capitol breach may never happen again.

U.S. Postal Service Challenges

Mail delays and USPS operational breakdowns occurring throughout the state of Georgia are deeply troubling and require both rigorous oversight and additional transparency from USPS to all those affected. These major disruptions deeply impact many of my constituents who depend on USPS to pay their bills, receive their paychecks, file their taxes, send their ballots, and, in some cases, get medications and other life-saving products.

Like you, I am concerned about the reliability of USPS. I continue to press the Postmaster General on the state of mail service delivery in Georgia in the wake of significant delays and operational breakdowns, as well as for a detailed explanation for alleged fraud at the Marietta Post Office.

  • On March 20, 2024, I joined U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and Raphael Warnock (D-GA) on a letter to USPS Postmaster General DeJoy regarding mail theft at the Marietta Post Office.
    • We received a response on April 8, 2024, from USPS stating an Office of Inspector General (OIG) investigation was ongoing. Currently, no new updates have transpired in this effort.
  • On April 15, 2024, I led a letter with the Georgia Republican Congressional Delegation urging Postmaster General DeJoy to adequately address USPS delays and operations issues.
    • I received a six-page response from USPS on April 22, 2024.
  • On April 16, 2024, I joined U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) in a letter urging USPS to halt all further postal consolidation.
    • In a response received on May 17, 2024, USPS announced a pause on further consolidation throughout the country until January 1, 2025.
  • On May 17, 2024, I detailed our efforts to secure additional commitments from USPS on its election integrity efforts.
