Press Release of the Week [1 of 2]: Rep. Loudermilk Runs to Raise Awareness of Veteran Suicide

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after participating in the annual Shepherd’s Men run in Washington, D.C. Shepherd’s Men is an organization that raises awareness of veteran suicides.

“Every day, an estimated twenty-two veterans take their own lives due to post traumatic stress and other illnesses, reminding us of the invisible wounds of war for our veterans returning from combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is in their honor that the Shepherd’s Men run each year through Washington, D.C. – with a goal of bringing this number from twenty-two to zero. We all need to come together and rally around those heroes who are facing unspeakable suffering, and remind them just how valuable they are to their families and communities. Together we can bring awareness to, and defeat, this heartbreaking illness. I’m grateful, again, for the chance to run, to support my fellow veterans.”
