  In the News: Rep. Loudermilk Congratulates 92 Year-Old Veteran on His Birthday

Around 450 people showed up to watch an unlikely pilot bring his chopper in for a landing at Celebration Village Acworth assisted living.

To celebrate his 92nd birthday, Oscar Johnson, Jr., a decorated veteran, former CIA operative and vice presidential pilot, touched down to a crowd, recognitions, remarks and, of course, birthday cake.

Recognitions of Johnson’s service to the country, including his transport of Vice President Hubert Humphrey and over 37,000 flight hours, included congratulatory messages from Gov. Brian Kemp, U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Cassville, and Humphrey’s family, according to Mike Searcy, director of community relations for Celebration Village Acworth.

Both the Cobb County Commission and city of Acworth also proclaimed July 18, 2021, Oscar Johnson, Jr. Day, Searcy said.

"America is grappling with a resurgence in COVID-19 cases, but Republican lawmakers remain divided over whether to push millions of reluctant GOP voters to get vaccinated against the deadly virus.

But many rank-and-file Republicans continue to show apathy toward the national vaccine push, downplaying the severity of the coronavirus spike and arguing that the decision is a personal choice for individuals and families."

  Rep. Loudermilk recently cosponsored the following legislation and signed onto the following letters: 

Vaccine Passport Prevention Act - Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH)
-Prohibits the federal government from issuing any vaccine passport
-As a condition of receiving any federal coronavirus funds, no state, tribal, or local government can issue a vaccine passport

Letter to House Sergeant at Arms, Led by House Admin. Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-IL)
-Expresses concern over the TX Delegation Democrats’ recent visit to the Capitol – in violation of the current House visitation policy.
