  Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after he discussed the various police reforms being proposed in Congress with police officers from ten different departments in Georgia’s 11th Congressional District:

“It is unquestionable that the death of George Floyd was horrific, and it highlighted the need to look carefully at the treatment of people while in police custody. Clearly, law enforcement has a responsibility to ensure everyone’s rights are protected. What happened to George Floyd should never happen to anyone; and, the vast majority of law enforcement officers across this nation agree..."

Rep. Loudermilk’s Business Brief: Congress Extends Deadline to Apply for PPP
On Wednesday, Congress passed legislation to extend the application deadline for the Paycheck Protection Program until August 8, 2020. The PPP still has $130 billion in available funds for small businesses.

While this program is far from perfect, numbers do matter; and, this program has undoubtedly helped save millions of businesses and jobs around the country. The state of Georgia alone has had more than 145 thousand PPP forgivable loans approved, totaling more than $14 billion during the second round of PPP funding.   In the News: Record jobs gain of 4.8 million in June smashes expectations; unemployment rate falls to 11.1%
 
  From CNBC: 

Nonfarm payrolls soared by 4.8 million in June and the unemployment rate fell to 11.1% as the U.S. continued its reopening from the coronavirus pandemic, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting a 2.9 million increase and a jobless rate of 12.4%. The report was released a day earlier than usual due to the July Fourth holiday.

The jobs growth marked a big leap from the 2.7 million in May, which was revised up by 190,000. The June total is easily the largest single-month gain in U.S. history.
