U.S. Congressman Barry Loudermilk

This week, Rep. Loudermilk met with students from Georgia’s 11th Congressional District and from across the country, who traveled to Washington, D.C. on a Youth Tour led by Georgia’s Electric Membership Cooperatives. These highly talented and ambitious young students were in D.C. to learn about our nation’s capital and public service.

Press Release of the Week: Rep. Loudermilk Works to Drain the Swamp

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after he reintroduced the Modern Employment Reform, Improvement, and Transformation (MERIT) Act, H.R. 3348:

“Working for the United States federal government is an honor and privilege, and most federal employees are dedicated to serving the American people. Unfortunately, some federal employees have learned they can take advantage of this antiquated system and are using their positions for personal gain, or are consistently derelict in their duties. The current federal employment system unfairly protects these bad actors from dismissal, which allows them to game the system without fear of losing their jobs. The MERIT Act modernizes the federal employment system by instituting a more streamlined system of dismissal – much like what is used in the private sector. This system provides agency heads with the ability to remove underperforming or bad employees while ensuring high performing employees are in place to serve the American people."

Billy and Kathy Inman, along with their 16-year-old son, Dustin were traveling together on June 16, 2000 when Gonzalo Harrell-Gonzalez, who was said to be traveling more than 60 mph, struck the family’s stopped vehicle at a traffic light in Ellijay. Graphic of the Week: Illegal Immigration Crisis

From Our Constituent Services' Desk...
National PTSD Awareness Day is June 27; and, if you or a loved one has ever served in the military, you likely know someone with PTSD. It’s quite possible you are suffering from PTSD, but may be afraid to say anything.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) first came to the forefront of America in the 1980s when the American Psychiatric Association added this health issue to its diagnostic manual of mental disorders. However, PTSD has actually been in existence since almost the beginning of time. You may have heard of it as shell shock, soldier’s heart, combat fatigue, or war neurosis.
