Business Brief: Agreement Reached on More Funding for PPP
|

Yesterday, the Senate passed a funding package that will provide more financial relief to small businesses affected by COVID-19. The package, which the White House negotiated with Senate and House leadership from both parties, includes $310 billion to add to the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The House is scheduled to vote on this package Thursday.
$60 billion of this new PPP funding would be dedicated to small lenders and community financial institutions. Additionally, the bill would provide $50 billion more for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, $25 billion for testing, and $75 billion for hospitals.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced some businesses in Georgia will reopen this week:
“I commend Governor Brian Kemp for making the decision to begin opening Georgia back up for business. Georgia is known nationwide as the best state in which to do business; and, to continue leading the nation in this area, we must get hardworking Georgians back to work as soon and as safely as possible. As a family man and a small business owner for over twenty years, I know the hardships and uncertainty many Georgians have been facing. This pandemic has caused many in our state to lose their jobs, making it challenging to pay the bills and put food on the table; small business owners have watched sales nose-dive and business dry up; and some farmers have watched their crops rot due to a decrease in demand.

"Georgia’s members of Congress say they have adjusted to a new way of carrying out their duties during this period of sheltering in place.
In the old days — before March — they either attended caucus and committee meetings in person or missed them outright. They greeted one another with hugs and handshakes and welcomed visitors to ornate offices at the U.S. Capitol complex before hopping flights home for the weekend.
Today, they are teleworking from home like many of us. Only, on the other end of their continuous video chats and conference calls are President Donald Trump, public health officials, local nonprofits and industry executives.
