Rep. Loudermilk: Concerns About Whistleblower Protections in House of Representatives
Washington,
August 2, 2021
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga) issued the following statement after led a letter with House Republican Whip Steve Scalise, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik and 40 House Republicans to the House Sergeant at Arms, William J. Walker, concerning whistleblower protections as it relates to the official business visitor procedures for the House of Representatives.
“The practice of collecting personally identifiable information from every visitor to the House of Representatives, prior to their visit, is of great concern, especially when it comes to protecting whistleblowers’ anonymity if they want to make an in-person disclosure. Not only does this raise First Amendment privacy concerns, but this practice could also be in direct violation of Title 5 of the U.S. Code, which outlines the right of whistleblowers to petition Congress. While these policies are in place, we must ensure that Americans who want to make a whistleblower complaint are protected.” Cosigners: House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, Rep.
