Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) issued the following statement after he joined forces with other conservative members in the House of Representatives condemning Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Adam Schiff for their handling of the impeachment inquiry:
“In the House of Representatives, there are rules and procedures upon which we govern. Speaker Pelosi, Rep. Schiff, and the rest of the House Democratic leadership continue to ignore the historical precedent set during the Nixon and Clinton impeachments and, clearly, are giving no respect to the rule of law. “What this all seems to boil down to is that the Democrats are angry the American people elected Donald Trump as their president; and they have spent the past three years trying to undo that election. Even before he was sworn in as President, Democrats were talking about impeachment, even attempting to stop the certification of electoral-college votes on the House floor. Less than a month into his presidency, on February 9, 2017, House Democrats filed a ‘resolution of inquiry’ as a first step towards impeachment. Ever since, there have been several attempts to bring formal impeachment charges against Donald Trump by Democrats in the House. Along with passing legislation for a federal takeover of the election system, and attempts to end the electoral college, this is just a continuation of their obsession with impeachment, after the ‘Russia collusion’ theory fell apart. “In Georgia, people are telling me that they are sick and tired of the wasted time and energy to undo the 2016 election, instead of the House working on issues important to the American people. While valuable time is being wasted on endless closed-door hearings, our military is waiting on Congress to renew the National Defense Authorization Act, which has expired. Farmers and businesses are waiting on Congress to pass the USMCA trade agreement. And Americans are waiting on a secure southern border, affordable drug prices, and improved options for their healthcare. “The Democrats obsession has pushed them to ‘impeach-at-all-cost,’ even by violating the rules governing the process. They are denying the right to defense, and denying open hearings, even to members of Congress. I serve on one of the committees Nancy Pelosi assigned to work on the impeachment inquiry; however, I have been banned from the hearings in the Capitol; and, this week I was denied the ability to review the transcripts of Ambassador Volker and other witness. “Unfortunately, many of my Democratic colleagues are continuing this desperate mission, seeking justification to impeach, and will stop at nothing to find or manufacture it. But, if we in Congress, won’t follow our own rules and laws, how can we expect it of all Americans? It’s time to get back to work for the American people.” |
